Year 1748. John Newton is a ship captain who sails from Africa to America with a cargo of slaves. John is not responsible for this group of men, but he has the opportunity to meet them and cannot help wondering why they are condemned to slavery. On board travel Samuel’s grandfather whose survival is directly related to the fate of Captain Newton. The trip changes Newton’s life completely and creates a legacy that will inspire Samuel and the lives of future generations.
One hundred years later Samuel Woodward and his family flee the Monroe plantation, near Richmond, Virginia. A group of people will help and guide them on their journey to northern Canada, but at the same time they are persecuted by the slave hunter Plimpton. After being captured and suffering abuse and abuse, like his ancestors, Samuel will have to decide between revenge or freedom.
The film is inspired by true stories and Peter Cousens is in charge of the project. In addition, it has a cast formed by Cuba Gooding Jr., William Sadler, Sharon Leal, David Rasche and Michael Goodwin, among others.
