Sex is power, that’s the motto of Waseem, a Syrian asylum seeker and gay-for-pay escort in Cologne. Keeping his clients at a certain emotional distance while satisfying his carnal desires, he meets Lars, who shows him a keen interest. Between the harshness of Waseem’s home life and the harshness of his priceless relationships with Lars, the director offers a frontal entry into the subject. Very effective, since the spectator finds himself drawn into the mutual fascination of the two men. Under the harshness of their exchanges are emerging more and more ambivalent, but undeniable feelings. Thanks to a subtle reading of relationships of domination, both sexual and social, Kai Kreuser thwarts the labels under which his characters define themselves: manly modesty is irrepressibly driven out by an insatiable need for tenderness.
